HMP Eastwood Park is female prison housing up to 440 women who are both sentenced and remanded. The healthcare service is formed through a consortium of agencies, AWP works alongside the main contractor Practice Plus Group.

Main duties of the job
Working as part of the mental health team you will have the opportunity to work alongside an experienced multi-disciplinary team, that is supportive and motivated to deliver outstanding care.

Successful candidates will have previously completed, or be committed to completing, the care certificate, or equivalent qualification.
Applicants will be required to work 37.5hours a week, primarily Monday to Friday.
The successful candidate will be required to obtain prison security clearance in addition to DBS and reference checks.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The role of support worker is across our Unscheduled and Planned Care Teams- providing stabilisation interventions to service users in acute distress and ongoing interventions as part of a care plan with service users who are managed under Care Programme Approach.
Liaise as appropriate with other members of the multidisciplinary team and other agencies involved in the care of individual service users.
The role will also require undertaking and delivering defined activities and interventions for a caseload of identified service users, in accordance with the agreed personal recovery plan. This maybe either on a one to one basis, or as part of a group activity.

- Well-developed listening skills and effective verbal communication skills and ability to communicate both face to face, via email and by telephone.
- Written communication skills, with the ability to contribute to written reports, maintain accurate records and interpret relevant clinical information effectively.
- Ability to form and sustain a trusting relationship with service users/carers.
- Team-working skills, and ability to function effectively and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary setting.
- IT skills: ability to use email, Microsoft word and basic clinical records databases.
- Ability to articulate and demonstrate compassionate, recovery-focused care that values diversity and equality.
Experience and Knowledge
Essential
- Significant experience of working in a mental health setting
- Sound knowledge and understanding of mental health issues, taking a positive, nonjudgemental approach towards service users, carers, colleagues and members of the public.
- Experience of mental health services, as a user, carer, volunteer or worker.
Desirable
- Experience of teaching / training individuals or groups.
Education and Qualification
Essential
- Possession of, or the ability and willingness to work towards, an appropriate Level 5 vocational qualification (Foundation Degree in Mental Health or Health and Social Care)
Desirable
- Training in an allied field such as counselling, mediation or advocacy.
- Training in psychosocial interventions (e.g. CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing).
