Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Digital team at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust as an Apprentice Automation Developer. Reporting to the Digital Automation Specialist, you will support the development, testing, deployment and maintenance of Robotic Process Automation (RPA) and low-code automation solutions across the Trust.

The role is ideally suited to someone with a basic understanding of coding and/or an interest in RPA and low-code technologies who is looking to develop practical experience within a supportive Automation and AI team. Working under close supervision and following established standards and procedures, you will contribute to digital transformation initiatives that help improve the efficiency, quality and safety of Trust services.

You will have the opportunity to develop your technical skills while working alongside experienced Digital colleagues and gaining hands-on experience with technologies such as Microsoft Power Automate and Power Apps. The role also provides opportunities to learn about the full automation lifecycle, including requirements gathering, development, testing, documentation, deployment, monitoring and basic troubleshooting.

Main duties of the job

As an Apprentice Automation Developer, your main duties will include:

  • Assisting senior developers with the development of simple RPA solutions and workflows using Microsoft Power Automate and Power Apps.
  • Supporting the configuration, testing and documentation of automation solutions.
  • Carrying out routine checks, monitoring live automation processes and undertaking basic troubleshooting.
  • Logging, updating and tracking work items, incidents and change requests using Jira or similar tools.
  • Following agreed development standards, documentation requirements and version control practices.
  • Participating in Agile ways of working, including stand-ups, sprint reviews and retrospectives.
  • Assisting with gathering basic requirements and process information from users and stakeholders.
  • Escalating technical issues appropriately and promptly.
  • Undertaking relevant training and self-development to build knowledge and skills in RPA, low-code development and digital services.
  • Working collaboratively with the Automation Team and wider Digital colleagues to support digital transformation and continuous improvement across the Trust.

Job responsibilities

The role is suitable for an individual with some basic knowledge of coding and/or exposure to RPA or low code tools, who is looking to develop practical experience within a structured Automation and AI team. The post holder will work under close supervision, following defined standards and procedures, contributing to digital transformation initiatives that improve efficiency, quality and safety of Trust services.

Key Duties:

Assist in the development of simple RPA solutions and workflows using Microsoft Power Automate and Power Apps, under guidance from senior developers.

Support the configuration, testing and documentation of automation solutions.

Carry out routine checks, basic troubleshooting and monitoring of live automation processes.

Follow agreed development standards, documentation templates and version control practices.

Participate in Agile ceremonies such as stand ups, sprint reviews and retrospectives as directed.
