Job overview

The Urology Centre is a modern out-patient and diagnostic department specialising in urology and uro-oncology. The department offers Lithotripsy treatment for the treatment of urinary stones. We offer rapid access to many diagnostic procedures, many of which are nurse-led. We are a fast-growing speciality and we focus on excellent patient experience, service delivery and customer care.

Main duties of the job

The Advanced Practice (nurse) role is for a qualified autonomous practitioner with a caseload within a team structure. The post holder will be given an opportunity to utilise existing clinical skills in Urology and to develop new specialist skills. The development of new skills will be acquired with the support and supervision of experienced specialists working in the area. We are hoping to recruit a qualified practitioner (Nurse) who can communicate well and can adapt to an ever changing environment. Urology nursing experience is essential. The role will mainly be based at Epsom Hospital, but there will be some requirement to work at St Helier Hospital.

Essential

  • • Advanced assessment and history taking skills, demonstrates highly developed diagnostic reasoning skills
  • • Leadership skills & Professionally credible
  • • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Desirable

  • • Competent to undertake flexible Cystoscopy
  • • Able to chair, co-ordinate and facilitate meetings

Knowledge

Essential

  • • In depth experience of current Urological issues including development of nurse led services and clinics
  • • Up to date knowledge of evidence based guidelines and policies
  • • Understanding of clinical governance and risk assessment
  • • High level of work organisation, self-motivation, drive for performance and improvement, and flexibility in approach and attitude
  • • Strong sense of commitment to openness, honesty and integrity in undertaking the role

Experience

Essential

  • • Extensive experience within an Urology clinical speciality
  • • Demonstration of experience in all four pillars of advanced clinical practice (clinical practice, leadership and management, research, education)
  • • Participation in audit and research
  • • In depth experience of current Urological issues including development of nurse led services and clinics

Desirable

  • • Experience as clinical Leader
  • • Experience in an autonomous practice role
  • • Previous experience in an advanced practice role
  • • Experience of service development

Qualifications

Essential

  • • MSc in Advanced Practice or equivalent
  • • Independent or supplementary prescriber
  • • BAUN accredited or EAUN accredited
  • • Registered Nurse

Desirable

  • • Undertaken accredited course or gained digital badge accreditation with NHSE Centre for advancing practice
  • • Completed advanced practice accreditation in speciality e.g. RCEM, RCN, full membership MACP
  • • Completed portfolio of supervised practice in speciality
  • • Specialty courses, particularly on cystoscopy, prostate biopsy (transperineal), haematuria assessment, urodynamics and other procedures
