Main duties of the job

You will support the Senior Welsh Language Officer in helping the Health Board meet its Welsh Language Standards, making sure services are accessible and compliant within agreed timescales. A key part of the role is promoting the use of Welsh across the organisation, particularly for priority groups such as children and young people, mental health service users, older people, and those with additional communication needs.

You will work closely with teams across the Health Board to provide guidance and practical support, helping them develop and monitor their own bilingual services. This includes encouraging the use of Welsh in everyday work, ensuring documents and communications are bilingual, and supporting staff in understanding the importance of language choice for patients and service users.

The role also involves supporting Welsh language training, maintaining strong relationships with internal teams and external partners, including assisting at Health Board conferences and engaging with Welsh-language media and helping to create a positive, inclusive bilingual culture. You’ll contribute to communications, events, and initiatives that encourage staff confidence in using Welsh, while helping to ensure policies, services, and systems fully reflect Welsh language requirements.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
