An exciting opportunity has arisen for a committed, highly skilled and enthusiastic Band 7 Charge Nurse / Sister to lead the Centre for Urgent Care and the Royal Marsden Hotline in Chelsea.
The post holder will be responsible for the day‑to‑day operational management of the unit, ensuring the delivery of high‑quality, safe and effective patient care. The successful candidate will have excellent clinical skills with significant experience in a chemotherapy day unit setting, strong leadership abilities and a proactive, flexible approach.
They will act as a clinical role model, promote effective multidisciplinary team working, support staff development and contribute to service improvement and patient experience.
Main duties of the job
- To create and maintain a safe, therapeutic clinical environment for all patients and their families who come to the area. To co-ordinate all functions and activities proactively within the designated clinical environment.
- To manage resources of clinical area within budgetary limitations e.g. finance, equipment and staff (including temporary staff).
- To provide strong clinical leadership of the nursing and support workers that is motivating, supportive and sets clear boundaries resulting in high quality safe patient care.
- To support a clinical learning environment that enables nursing staff to develop professionally and promotes the use of evidence in practice.

- Manage a co-ordinated day care nursing (chemotherapy and IV Services) service in liaison with all members of the multi-disciplinary team maximising high quality patient care.
- To monitor and review nursing practice regularly, participating in audits which must include documentation in accordance with Trust policy and NMC Guidelines.
- Within the framework of Team Nursing, to maintain the continuity of quality nursing care that responds flexibly to patients’ and carers’ needs and includes a pathway to the community or relevant care setting.
- Be involved in the direct delivery of skilled and specialized nursing care involving complex physical skills, e.g. IV drug administration, administration of cytotoxic drugs. To provide an expert knowledge base for all aspects of Vascular Access Devices, and liaise with the Nurse Consultant IV Therapy as appropriate. Assist with invasive diagnostic medical procedures, e.g. lumbar punctures.
- To be a professional role model for junior staff, demonstrating clinical skills competently, be a knowledgeable, critical thinking practitioner, demonstrating a polite, compassionate attitude towards patients and their families.

- Ability to use advanced communication/interpersonal skills when working with staff, patients, and carers.
- Ability to communicate with and/or give advice to all members of the hospital and community MDT and show good leadership skills
- Good presentation and teaching skills
- Ability to provide clear and concise documentation.
- Ability to manage databases, maintain records with integral auditing and to produce annual reports for the service.

- Computer literate in Microsoft outlook, office, word, excel and PowerPoint

Education / Qualifications
Essential
- NMC registration
- First Level registration with experience in a cancer care / acute care environment
- Bachelor’s degree or studying at degree level supplemented by specialist training/experience or working towards
- Teaching/Mentoring qualification and/or experience
- Recognised cancer nursing Qualification
- Venepuncture/Cannulation
- Experience/ training in physical assessment skills or willingness to undertake
