Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Ward Manager to work as part of our dedicated team at The Brook based at Langdon, in Dawlish. The Brook is a specialist inpatient service supporting adults with a Learning Disability and Autism who present with complex needs and a mental health condition.

The role is dynamic and challenging and we are looking for someone who is highly motivated, innovative and enthusiastic who can demonstrate an eagerness for the on-going development of the new service.

You would be joining us at an exciting time as our service continues to develop and evolve.

You will need excellent communication and leadership skills to ensure collaborative work with service users and their families to provide the highest quality of care.

This role will require the post-holder to provide strong, practical and operational leadership with the highest regard to valuing and supporting your team. You will have the confidence and skills to support your team to respond to both the physical and mental well-being needs of your patients in partnership with a vast multi-disciplinary team.

Successful candidates will need to demonstrate a sound experience of management including aspects related to clinical care, staff wellbeing and support, day-to-day management of a busy mental health ward; including expertise in budgetary management and meet team performance criteria.

Main duties of the job

You will be an RLDN, RMN or RGN with post registration experience, including significant experience in a Band 6 position. You will need to be a strong clinical leader to support and supervise staff, ensuring that the care that is provided is exceptional. A desired experience of working with individuals with a learning disability or autistic adults, understanding legal frameworks and CTR processes.

You will have experience of working in a clinical team. The role involves communication, so we expect that you have excellent verbal and written skills this includes regular meetings with stakeholders. Managing a large staff team, so a good understanding around supporting staff wellbeing as well as HR processes around performance monitoring.

Interacting with stakeholders, patients, families and the public means you will need to be confident in giving non-clinical information and advice. Dealing with sensitive information daily, you will understand the importance of data security, confidentiality and professionalism.

You will often work under pressure and without direct supervision, so we are looking for someone confident and capable. You will prioritise tasks, and manage your own workload, providing support for your colleagues where required, ensure that ward KPI's are monitored.

You will become an integral part of the team, working to ensure that every patient receives high quality care and staff feel supported.
