Job overview

The post holder will provide effective leadership and management for the inpatient multidisciplinary team. To ensure all inpatients in their area of responsibility are provided with a high standard of care to meet their individual needs and that a safe environment is maintained at all times. To ensure the inpatient service is delivered within allocated resources and that agreed performance indicators are achieved.   To ensure the ward complies with all aspects of the Health & Social Care Act 2012 and ensure the wards meet all of the requirements of the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Main duties of the job

To ensure practice is delivered safely in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct, the policies and procedures of Pennine care NHS Foundation Trust, Mental Health Act and Community Care legislation.   To be a visible and proactive clinical leader and role model within the multidisciplinary team and actively participate in the delivery of clinical care on the ward.

To ensure that patients, their families and carers are directly involved in decisions affecting their care.   Experienced and hold a certificate in Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression (PMVA).

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To support the Acute Services Manager in ensuring that high standards are maintained throughout inpatient services in relation to a clean environment, catering standards and infection control, paying particular attention to patients privacy and dignity and to take appropriate action if problems arise.   To promote the involvement of patients, relatives and carers and advocacy workers in the evaluation and development of service delivery.   To take an active role in the management of resources, skill mix reviews and support the Acute Services Manager in the Management of nursing budgets and overall budgetary management.   To participate in the recruitment, selection, appointment and induction of staff within Inpatient Services.   To assist in the investigation of complaints and clinical incidents relating to nursing practice within Inpatient Services   To demonstrate a working knowledge and application of Trust Policies, Guidelines and Protocols, actively contributing to their development and ensuring they are effectively delivering a high standard of clinical care.   To effectively manage the ward and work closely with the In-Patient Services Manager in order to meet the financial targets for the wards and service.    To exercise fair and firm leadership, establishing and maintaining high morale on the wards.
