An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated band 7 Ward Manager to join the Head & Neck ward on a 12 month secondment to cover maternity leave.

Head and Neck is a busy ward that cares for Ear, nose and throat patients and Maxillo-Facial patients across Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Mid-Wales.

Patients can be emergency clinic admissions, A+E or theatre patients with this being the only surgical ward that looks after patients with Altered airways.

The successful applicant will be looking to develop themselves within the surgical division and be expected to participate in the senior 401 bleep holder rota.

The role requires you to be an experienced, confident and exceptional Leader. It is essential you have highly developed management and leadership expertise in dealing with people. You will need to engage with your patients and service users in all elements of your role, leading by example and promoting a supportive and compassionate culture. This will require an open approach, whereby you are accountable to others and go that extra mile if required.

You will be supported by a team comprising of a Matron, Divisional Director of Nursing, Deputy director of Nursing and General Manager to achieve your full potential.

Main duties of the job

To ensure a high standard of nursing care at all times through the effective management of staff and resources on his/her allocated department.

To demonstrate strong clinical leadership in stressful and challenging situations.To promote a positive approach to new challenges and creative ways of working. To act as advocate for their designated area and liase with all members of the multi-disciplinary team to co-ordinate all aspects of patient care in the best interests of the patient and family. To ensure effective training and educational programmes are available by liasing with appropriate personnel to meet the training and educational needs of nurses in the clinical area. This post carries continuing responsibility for the management of the Ward, including the deployment and supervision of staff.
