Job overview

Medical Same Day Emergency Care (MSDEC) is looking to recruit a part time Ward Clerk.  Hours will be between 07.30 and 23.00  on a rota basis including weekends and Bank Holidays.

You will need to be a team player, have the ability to work as part of a team and on your own initiative, a flexible approach to tasks in a changing environment, excellent communication, organisational, interpersonal skills, stay focused and calm in difficult situation and competent in using IT systems.

Main duties of the job

  • To maintain and update patient records/ward notes and other ward records using computer based in-house systems.
  • To use effective communication and interpersonal skills when dealing with patients on a daily basis in a busy environment either via the telephone or face to face.
  • To photocopy/scan documents as required.
  • To ensure patient confidentiality at all times in line with the Trust policy.
  • To assist in the induction and development of others by demonstrating own duties.

Essential

  • Knowledge of use of office equipment e.mail, photocopy, printing
  • Experience of self management organising own time and daily tasks
  • Demonstrate skills of tact, sensitivity when dealing with complaints and enquired both verbally and written
  • Be able to respond to and manage appropriately to patient and families where there is distress/emotional circumstance

Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ level 2 qualification in administration or equivalent hospital experience
  • Good standard of Education to include Maths and English

Knowledge/Experience

Essential

  • Proficient keyboard and data entry experience
  • Previous experience as a ward clerk/reception meet and greet
  • Knowledge of GRDP
  • Experience in the use of computerised administration systems careflow
