Job summary

There is an exciting opportunity to join the team on Gate A4 - Spinal injuries as a ward clerk. This is based at Pinderfields Hospital.

The Ward Clerk provides efficient administrative and clerical support to ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of the ward. Acting as the first point of contact for patients, visitors, and healthcare professionals,

The Ward Clerk maintains accurate records, manages communications, and supports the multidisciplinary team in delivering high-quality patient care.

Main duties of the job

  • Undertake clerical, administrative and reception duties.
  • Support the nursing team in the effective running of the department, providing a quality patient centred service
  • Welcome patients and visitors to the ward area.
  • Answer the telephone, transferring calls and recording and delivering messages accurately and to the appropriate personnel.
  • Input patient activity on Patient Administration System (PAS), including booking elective admissions, admitting, discharging and ensuring that the PAS is kept updated.
  • Complete records of nursing activity for coding purposes.
  • Obtaining patients notes and preparing same for patients admission.
  • Book ambulances, interpreters, and other supportive services
  • Arranging district nurse referrals, on request of unit staff.
  • Liaise with support services.
  • Liaise with Pharmacy staff regarding the ordering / delivery of discharge medications.
  • Liaise with other wards / departments.
