An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Registered Nurse to join our expanding Virtual Ward team.

The Virtual Ward provides hospital-level care to patients in the comfort of their own homes, enabling individuals who would otherwise require an inpatient hospital stay to receive safe, effective treatment whilst maintaining their independence. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality care to patients receiving intravenous (IV) antibiotic therapy at home.

The successful applicant will be responsible for visiting patients in their own homes to administer IV antibiotics, assess their clinical condition, undertake blood sampling (both peripherally and via vascular access devices), and provide ongoing monitoring throughout their treatment. You will be supported by the wider Virtual Ward multidisciplinary team while enjoying the autonomy of managing your own caseload.

The applicant must hold a valid UK driving license and been driving for a minimum of 1 year, as this is an essential part of the role

Main duties of the job

• Deliver safe and effective intravenous antibiotic therapy to patients within their own homes.
• Undertake comprehensive clinical assessments during each patient visit.
• Competently manage and dress vascular access devices, including PICC lines, midlines and other central venous access devices.
• Obtain blood samples via vascular access devices and through peripheral venepuncture as clinically indicated.
• Monitor patients' response to treatment, recognising any signs of deterioration or complications.
• Escalate clinical concerns promptly and appropriately in line with local policies and clinical pathways.
• Maintain accurate, timely and comprehensive clinical documentation following each patient contact.
• Educate patients and carers regarding their treatment, vascular access devices and ongoing care.
• Ensure safe handling, storage and administration of intravenous medications in accordance with Trust policies and national guidance.
• Participate in service development and quality improvement initiatives to support the continued growth of the Virtual Ward.

You will be a Registered Nurse who is:

• Competent in the management of vascular access devices, including blood sampling from lines and peripheral venepuncture.
• Committed to continuous professional development and maintaining clinical competence.
• Flexible and able to respond to the changing needs of a developing service.
• A team player who values collaboration whilst thriving in an autonomous role.

This vacancy is for Registered Nurses with full NMC registration. If you are an internationally trained nurse that has not passed their OSCE (objective structured clinical examination), you will not be considered for this role and will be automatically rejected, so please do not apply.
