An opportunity has arisen for a flexible and motivated Registered Nurse to join the Urology Outpatients team. The role will involve working within outpatient clinics, supporting urologists in the diagnosis of patients by undertaking a range of urological procedures.
The post holder will also have the opportunity to work alongside Specialist Nurses and Nurse Practitioners within the department, assisting with day case procedures and contributing to focused service development initiatives.
The Clinic Nurse will be responsible for supporting patients and carers, ensuring the provision of appropriate verbal and written information. Clinics will include the care of patients with both benign and malignant urological conditions.
Competence in catheterisation is a requirement of the role; however, training will be provided for the successful candidate if required.
Ongoing professional and service development is essential. The post holder will be expected to actively engage in educational and clinical development opportunities and contribute to the continued development of the service, including nurse-led clinics. They will also support the supervision of junior staff and provide mentorship to students within the department.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be professionally accountable to or answer to the Urology Specialist Nursing Deputy Charge Nurse and Unit Matron for all nursing responsibilities.
- Organising and coordinating Consultant Urologist outpatient clinics
- Assisting and chaperoning the Urologist during clinical procedures
- Be able to undertake and interpret a range of urology procedures, including: Flow rate/test studies, Bladder scanning,
- The post holder should have skills in Phlebotomy, Catheterisation.
- Participation in TULA, Botox, BCG and LATP clinics,
- Supporting TWOC patients, escalating concerns and catheterisation whenever need be.
- Involvement in Urology and Haematuria one-stop clinics
- Providing clear and appropriate information and support to patients and carers
- Supporting the supervision of junior staff and mentoring students within the department
- Assisting Clinical Nurse Specialists and Cancer Nurse Specialists in day case procedures
- Contributing actively to service development and improvement within the department
- The post holder will act as a developing clinical practitioner within the specialty, demonstrating the ability to assess and screen patients, identify urology concerns, deliver appropriate nursing care, and escalate where required.

- The ability to communicate with patients and their families/carers during a highly stressful time, requiring the ability to alter communication strategies dependent on the situation and the patient's status
