Job overview

Leeds and York Forensic Services provide Low Secure Inpatient Services based at two sites within Leeds & York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (Clifton House, York and Newsam Centre, Leeds). The Forensic Service provides a high quality assessment, treatment and recovery service for people who represent a risk to others due to their mental disorder and are in need of either inpatient management, or support from a specialized community team. There are male acute and rehabilitation wards on each site and each site has a female ward.  Each service focuses on patients who suffer with primary diagnosis of mental illness.  Many have comorbid substance misuse and some may have comorbid personality disorder, autism spectrum disorder, or mild learning difficulties.

The postholder will provide medical RC responsibility for ward 2 which is an 11 bedded female ward. All patients are detained under the MHA. There is a community case load of about 15 female patients who are care coordinated by the forensic outreach team.  Access assessments to the inpatient service and risk advice and management reports are conducted on behalf of the secure provider collaborative on an approximately 1-2 times per monthly basis. Referrals are received from medium security, prisons and acute mental health services within the West Yorkshire Secure Provider Collaborative footprint.  Therefore the post holder will be required to travel to other hospitals and prisons.
