Job summary

We are looking for a caring, motivated and enthusiastic Treatment Room Nurse to join our friendly and supportive GP practice team. Main duties of the job

The Treatment Room Nurse will provide a range of nursing services to our patient population, working both independently and as part of the wider clinical team. Key responsibilities will include wound care and dressings, vaccinations and immunisations, injections, health checks, blood pressure monitoring, ECGs, suture and clip removal, and supporting patients with ongoing health needs.

The role will involve managing your own treatment room clinics, maintaining accurate clinical records, following infection prevention and safeguarding procedures, and working closely with GPs, nurses and other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure patients receive safe, effective and compassionate care.

Job Purpose

The Treatment Room Nurse will work as an integral member of the practice nursing and wider multidisciplinary team, providing safe, effective and patient-centred nursing care to the practice population.

The post holder will be responsible for delivering a range of treatment room services, supporting the management of patients with both acute and ongoing healthcare needs and promoting health and wellbeing wherever appropriate.

The post holder will work within their professional competence and in accordance with current NMC standards, practice policies and relevant national guidance.

The post holder will undertake treatment room duties appropriate to their level of competence and training, which may include:

• Wound assessment, management and dressings
• Removal of sutures and clips
• Administration of medications and injections
• Vaccinations and immunisations in accordance with relevant protocols and Patient Group Directions
• Blood pressure monitoring
• ECG recording
• Urinalysis and specimen collection
• Routine health checks and observations
• NHS Health Checks, where appropriately trained
• Ear care, where appropriately trained
• Supporting seasonal vaccination programmes, including influenza and COVID-19
• Providing appropriate health promotion and lifestyle advice
• Recognising changes or deterioration in a patient's condition and escalating appropriately
• Providing patients and carers with appropriate information, advice and support
• Maintaining clear, accurate and contemporaneous patient records using the practice clinical system

The post holder will:

• Follow practice infection prevention and control policies at all times
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness and clinical safety within the treatment room
• Use appropriate personal protective equipment
• Follow procedures relating to the safe handling and disposal of clinical waste and sharps
• Support the safe cleaning, storage and use of clinical equipment
• Report infection control concerns promptly and appropriately
• Administer medications safely and within their professional competence
• Work in accordance with prescriptions, Patient Specific Directions and Patient Group Directions as appropriate
• Ensure appropriate storage and monitoring of vaccines and medicines, including maintaining the cold chain
• Report medication errors, incidents or concerns in accordance with practice procedures
• Recognise potential safeguarding concerns relating to children and vulnerable adults
• Follow practice safeguarding policies and procedures
• Escalate concerns promptly to the appropriate safeguarding lead
• Attend safeguarding training appropriate to the role
• Maintain current NMC registration
• Work within the NMC Code and their own scope of professional competence
• Maintain professional knowledge through continuing professional development
• Attend relevant training, clinical updates and practice meetings
• Participate in clinical supervision, appraisal and performance reviews
• Recognise their own limitations and seek advice or support when required
• Maintain patient confidentiality at all times

The Treatment Room Nurse will work collaboratively with GPs, nurses, healthcare assistants, pharmacists, reception and administrative colleagues and other members of the multidisciplinary team.

• Participate in clinical and practice meetings where required
• Support colleagues during periods of increased demand
• Promote a positive, respectful and supportive working environment
• Work in accordance with practice policies, procedures and clinical protocols
• Participate in clinical governance, audit and quality improvement activities where appropriate
• Report significant events, incidents, near misses and patient safety concerns
• Contribute to learning from incidents and implementing improvements
• Maintain awareness of relevant NICE, NHS and professional guidance applicable to the role
