We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Tobacco Dependence Advisor to join our Physical Health Corporate Team at NSFT .
In this role you will provide tobacco dependence advice supporting inpatients and staff across Norfolk & Waveney to reduce harm and quit smoking through behavioural and motivational interventions
This role will involve working directly with patients to assess and support needs relating to tobacco dependency
Main duties of the job
One to one, and group, based tobacco cessation support; which maybe face to face, remote consultation or via telephone
Support people to develop personalised quit plans including harm reduction approaches
Provide behavioural support and health education to encourage lasting change
Advise on stop smoking therapies
Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to provide safe and effective care
Maintain strong relationships with patients, families and carers to support recovery
This role is diverse and will offer opportunity to visit NSFT sites to deliver smoking cessation, training and support for the continued implementation of the NSFT smokefree policy
There will be an expectation to travel to NSFT sites across Norfolk & Waveney
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Support the assessment, development and implementation of treatment plans for patients identified as smokers throughout the treatment period whilst providing behavioural and motivational support.
Work with patients on a one to one or group basis where appropriate to assess and agree a treatment and support plan to meet their individual requirements.
Report to the relevant tobacco dependency lead nurse on interventions and outcomes on a regular basis.
Ensure that the service adopts a Making Every Contact Count (MECC) approach in contacts with patients
Develop and maintain relationships with individuals and their families to educate, facilitate and promote change, also identifying and managing any risks related to patient care.
Offer therapeutic and supportive interventions to support a quit attempt whilst maintaining patient confidentiality.
Take and record patients carbon monoxide monitor readings and practice safely within infection, prevention, and control measures.
Advise patients on the use of stop smoking pharmacotherapy, including NRT and E-cigarettes.
Contribute to the long-term development of the onsite tobacco dependency treatment service

- Good general IT skills
- Communication skills (verbal and written)
- Ability to build and maintain good working relationships
Desirable
- Ability to work and communicate in group settings
- Understanding of audit and evaluation
Knowledge
Essential
- Understanding of Mental Health Issues
Desirable
- Good knowledge and understanding of evidence-based practice in smoking cessation, the consequences of smoking and the benefits of quiting
- Knowledge of principles of health promotion and issues of health inequality
Experience

- Previous experience of working within the NHS in the community/mental health services
- Previous experience of working within substance misuse services
Qualifications
Essential
- NVQ Level 3 in Healthcare or equivalent
- Educated to GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths
