Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Biomedical Engineer to join the Medical Device Service at Northern Care Alliance NHS Trust. Based at Rochdale Infirmary, this is a Trust-wide role requiring work across multiple NCA sites and community services. You will be part of a multi-professional Medical Devices Team delivering engineering, governance, and training support across various care settings.

Applicants should hold a minimum HNC in electronics or a clinical engineering qualification, with experience maintaining hospital medical equipment and a willingness to develop across a wide range of specialities. Candidates with limited experience may be appointed at a lower band (Band 4) with a structured development plan to progress to Band 5.

Main duties of the job

A brief overview of what your day to day duties will include are listed below:

  • Carrying out routine maintenance on a wide range of medical equipment.
  • Investigating and repairing medical equipment reported as faulty.
  • Updating evidence of work done on an equipment database.
  • Driving to community sites to collect, deliver, service and repair medical equipment.
  • Assisting with the commissioning of new medical equipment. This includes testing and configuring of new medical equipment before it
  • is released for clinical use.
  • Supporting users of medical equipment to make the best use of these assets. This will include providing specialist advice to users in
  • their clinical use and application.
  • Assisting in the management of risk associated with medical devices; this will include involvement in training, investigations, testing and
  • repair of medical equipment and acting as the interface between users and other outside agencies / suppliers.
  • Working in a team supporting each other in order to achieve the common goal of providing a high-quality service that is agile and flexible and best serves the need of our service users.
  • Supporting senior engineers to carry out investigations on medical equipment and devices which are reported as being subject to an
  • adverse incident or when supplier recall notifications require action.
  • Working with external suppliers of medical equipment.
  • Working within the organisations policies and local procedures.
  • Regularly updating your Knowledge / Skills.
