Job overview

To b e responsible for providing safe, effective, and recovery-focused care to adults experiencing acute mental illness who require inpatient treatment.  The post holder works as part of a multidisciplinary team to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for patients with complex mental health needs. They deliver both mental and physical healthcare, ensure patient safety, and contribute to therapeutic interventions that support recovery and discharge planning.

Main duties of the job

  • Undertake comprehensive mental health and risk assessments.
  • Develop, implement, and review individualised care plans.
  • Maintain accurate and contemporaneous clinical records.
  • Administer and monitor medication in accordance with NMC and Trust requirements.
  • Monitor patients' mental and physical health needs.
  • Respond to psychiatric emergencies and escalating risks.
  • Manage patients presenting with self-harm, suicide risk, aggression, vulnerability, or severe mental illness.
  • Contribute to observation and engagement plans.
  • Use de-escalation techniques and least restrictive practices where appropriate.
  • Participate in safeguarding procedures and incident reporting.

Skills

Essential

  • Good communication skills. Able to assess, plan, implement, care

Knowledge

  • Mental Health Act 1983 / 2007.

Experience

  • Experience of working with people with Severe and Enduring Mental Health problems
  • Ability to work without direct supervision.

Desirable

  • Experience of the recovery process

Qualifications

Essential

  • Core Professional registration RMN or RNLD

Desirable

  • Mentor preparation course ENB998 or equivalent or willingness to attend.
