We are delighted to share we have a vacancy for band 5 staff nurse/practitioner to join the endoscopy team at university hospital of north Durham We welcome both experienced and newly qualified staff nurses/practitioners .

Within endoscopy no two days are the same, we are looking to recruit highly motivated, dynamic, forward-thinking nurses, to help provide a safe high-quality service to patients trust wide.

The endoscopy service provides a range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for both inpatients and outpatients carried out within our 2 procedure rooms and our therapeutic work carried out in Xray department with a specialised team.

Main duties of the job

Our nurses ensure the safe admission, recovery and discharge of patients, as well as assisting our Consultants and Nurse Endoscopists within the procedure room. Patients attend the endoscopy department for various endoscopic procedures; colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, gastroscopy, bronchoscopy and as well as varied therapeutic procedures. Patients are referred into the endoscopy service via different routes; GP referrals, surveillance programmes, or referred via the multi-disciplinary team. We are proud to provide a comprehensive in house training programme which ensures nurses feel supported and competent in their abilities. We also participate in a out of hours on call rota on this acute site

We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

  • We welcome both experienced and newly qualified nurses.
  • Able to communicate effectively (written, verbal and non-verbal communication) with patients/relatives and carers and all members of the multi-disciplinary team
  • Will support, supervise and assess students in the delivery of nursing care, promoting reflection and providing constructive feedback, and evaluating and documenting their performance within the clinical setting.
  • Will promote health and healthy lifestyle choices and provide information in accessible ways to help people understand and make decisions about their health, life choices, illness and care.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Nursing Degree or equivalent qualification leading to NMC registration to part 1 of the NMC register.
  • Valid NMC PIN or awaiting PIN

  • Registered Nurse on part 1 of the NMC register
  • Valid UK NMC PIN

  • Understand requirements for NMC professional revalidation
  • Up to date understanding of the scope of and role of the Nurse in context of the nursing and interdisciplinary team and the organisation, and how the role may contribute to service development
  • Knowledge of when to seek advice and escalate to the appropriate professional help and advice
  • Will provide leadership in the delivery of care for people in their care and act in best interests of people, putting them first and providing care that is person-centred, safe and compassionate.
  • Safely lead and manage the nursing care of a group of people, demonstrating appropriate prioritization, delegation and assignment of care to others involved in patient care.
