JOB SUMMARY

  • The post holder must have a genuine interest in dermatology clinical nurse and is committed to developing their skills and knowledge in this area.
  • The ideal candidate should have an understanding of outpatient clinical functions, with the ability to work effectively in demanding role and must be willing to undertake the necessary training required to develop their skills and knowledge to meet the needs of the designated patient population.
  • Be able to organise own time and that of junior staff, delegating to junior staff and learners, participating in teaching and education programmes for staff patients and carers.
  • Have sound decision making and problem-solving skills, ability to take charge of the department in the absence of managers.

Main duties of the job

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Clinical and Professional
  • Strive to always maintaining the highest standard of patient care by using the nursing process to assess patient’ individual needs, plan care within the overall framework of nursing, implementation and evaluate nursing care and act on the outcomes without requiring supervision.
  • Supporting daily clinical functions e.g. (clinic setup/preparation, stock check, daily safety checks) in addition to developing their skills and knowledge in specialised areas such as (patch testing, phototherapy treatments and Iontophoresis) in line with the British Dermatology Nursing Groups band 5 competency framework
  • Is expected to support minor surgery procedures according to the service needs and as per allocation.
  • Is expected to undertake wound assessment post operative wound care and suture removal.
  • Is expected to achieve required Dermatology competencies within a specified time frame to be able to work unsupervised in accordance with Trust policies and guidelines
  • Expected to work in accordance with infection prevention and control policies and guidelines to minimise the risk of hospital acquired infections
  • Develop professional partnerships with multidisciplinary teams and other stakeholders to deliver high quality holistic patient care.
