Applicants will need to demonstrate a dynamic, hardworking, and passionate approach to delivering high quality patient care. The ability to administer IV drugs is essential. Venipuncture / Cannulation, and ILS are desirable but not essential.

Main duties of the job

  • Carry out planned care for a group of patients without direct supervision.
  • Ensure the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of evidence based.
  • Individualised patient care.
  • Assist and advise staff, both registered and unregistered in the delivery of patient care.
  • Organise one’s own work load ensuring most effective use of time.
  • Assist in the orientation of new staff and students.
  • Ensure that nursing practices comply with Trust policies and procedures.
  • Assess the needs of patients, relatives and carers and provide them with information as requested.
  • Assist in the teaching and development of nursing assistants and students helping them to achieve their learning outcomes.

Essential

  • • Good level of English language demonstrated through effective written and verbal communication skills

Desirable

  • • Experience with audit and research

Education

Essential

  • • Full valid UK NMC Adult registration
  • • Oral and IV Medication administration
  • • Venepuncture and cannulation certificate and finalised competencies

Desirable

  • • Plastering training
  • • Triage course
  • • Post-qualification education in Emergency Nursing
  • • Standards for Student Supervision and Assessment (SSSA) course

Experience

Essential

  • • Six months experience as a postgraduate nurse

Desirable

  • • Emergency department experience
  • • Previous experience working in a major trauma centre emergency department
  • • Acute care setting experience within the last 12 months as a registered nurse
