Main duties of the job
- For the post holder to be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care of post-operative patients and critically ill patients (Level 2) in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team.
- To be competent to manage and lead the unit with support from matron and unit manager.
- For the post holder to demonstrate specialist knowledge obtained through relevant post-registration course in caring for Level 1 or 2 post op patients and critically ill patients.
- To be responsible in supervising and teaching junior members of staff and pre-registration nurses/ODPs.
- To support an environment that promotes excellence in nursing practice and development of high level of clinical skills in post-anaesthetic care unit/recovery unit.

- To carry out duties in line with national and local post anaesthetic recovery care competencies, linked to professional codes of conduct (NMC/HCPC) • To be responsible for the assessment of patient care needs following surgery and to implementation and evaluation an individualised of plan of care, maintaining evidence-based post anaesthetic care. • To undertake all nursing procedures in accordance with Trust policies and ensure that these procedures and policies are understood and adhered to by all staff, within own management responsibility. • To communicate with patients and significant others with empathy and reassurance regarding, assessment, care and treatment. • To maintain accurate and comprehensive nursing records/documentation for patients.
