Job summary
Alton Community Hospital are currently looking to recruit a new Band 5 Clinical Staff Nurse to provide highquality, personcentred care within clinic settings, working autonomously and within professional guidelines. The postholder will manage a caseload of patients requiring treatments such as intravenous therapy, urinary and suprapubic catheter care, and leg ulcer management. They will undertake holistic assessments, develop and evaluate care plans, and ensure accurate, safe record keeping in line with Trust and professional standards.
The nurse will demonstrate compassion, effective communication, competence and professional courage while delivering safe, evidencebased clinical care. They will escalate concerns appropriately to senior staff, GPs or consultants, manage safeguarding risks, and contribute to medicines management to ensure safety and efficacy.
The role includes supporting multidisciplinary working, maintaining constructive relationships, promoting a culture of patient wellness, and acting as a role model for personcentred practice. The postholder will manage their own workload, contribute to team initiatives, support audit and quality improvement, and deputise for the Clinical Sister when required.
They will also participate in training, appraisal and reflective practice, maintaining uptodate clinical knowledge and skills to support excellent patient outcomes and continuous professional development.
Main duties of the job
The Band 5 Clinic Staff Nurse delivers compassionate, highquality, personcentred care, demonstrating effective communication, competence and professional courage. The post holder undertakes holistic assessment, planning and evaluation of care without direct supervision, ensuring safe clinical practice and accurate record keeping in line with Trust and professional standards. They recognise when referral or escalation is required, including safeguarding concerns, and contribute to safe medicines management.
The role involves effective communication with patients, carers and the multidisciplinary team, maintaining constructive relationships to ensure individual needs are met. The nurse acts as a role model for personcentred practice, promoting patient wellness, coproduction and evidencebased care. They demonstrate confidence in relevant clinical procedures, recognise personal limitations and seek support when needed.
Leadership responsibilities include managing their own caseload, supporting performance and development of others, contributing to audits, incidents and complaints, and deputising for the Clinical Sister when required. The post holder ensures safe use of equipment, engages in risk assessment processes, and helps maintain positive stakeholder relationships.
Ongoing development includes participating in mandatory training, reflective practice, supervision and appraisal, staying informed of clinical and organisational developments, and maintaining a personal development plan.
