We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant to join our welcoming and friendly team on the Stroke Unit at Lincoln County Hospital.

This is a part time post (22.5 hours) which includes weekend working on a rota basis.

Main duties of the job

This post is based on the Stroke Unit in Lincoln therefore you will be an active member of the Speech and Language Therapy team in a patient facing role. You will be trained to deliver therapy interventions under the guidance of the Speech and Language Therapists.

You will be a vital player in the team ensuring that patients receive intensive speech and language therapy input in line with national guidelines. This will include delivering both communication and swallowing rehabilitation therapy to patients recovering post stroke. You will be encouraged to participate in service development and will receive regular supervision from the team to further your development.

This post is based in Lincoln and includes weekend working as part of a regular rota shared between you and your speech and language therapy assistant colleagues. Bank holiday cover will also be required on a rota basis. Weekend and bank holiday working will be paid at an enhanced rate. There will be occasional requirements to attend meetings/training across the county.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To screen inpatients on the stroke unit for communication difficulties and report back to Speech and Language Therapist To deliver speech and language therapy intervention with patients on the stroke unit with guidance from a qualified Speech and Language Therapist To assist Speech and Language Therapists in the delivery of SLT related training to members of the MDT on the ward To prepare therapy resources for patients as instructed by Speech and Language Therapists including use of low-tech communication aids To record patient notes in an accurate and timely manner using both electronic held patient records and paper patient records in line with Trust protocols

To assist with collation of audit data e.g., SSNAP data

To provide advice on communication impairments and swallowing recommendations to other members of the MDT under the guidance of a Speech and Language Therapist

To partake in regular supervision with a Speech and Language Therapist
