Main duties of the job
If you are and would like to join a dynamic and caring team, delivering Oncology/haematology research then keep reading. We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated individual to join our successful Research and Innovation Department, working as a Specialist Research Nurse within the Oncology/Haematology research team. Due to significant growth across the whole oncology/Haematology portfolio the post holder may be expected to work across a diverse range of cancer types including lung, breast, colorectal, gynaecological and brain. The post holder will be responsible for supporting the day to day running of high quality Commercial and National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) portfolio studies and will be expected to contribute to all aspects of trial delivery across the Trust.
Working with the other Specialist Research Nurses, you will be responsible for delivering the portfolio, providing high quality care from recruitment through to follow up, closeout and archive. This post will be predominantly working within the Oncology/Haematology research team but may also be required to support the urgent public health and Trust wide studies. The post holder will work in close collaboration with the Research nursing team, Principal Investigators, and support staff, to ensure compliance with Trust Policy, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Human Tissue Act (HTA), and trial specific protocols.

Job responsibilities
We are looking for a registered nurse with sound Oncology/Haematology and/or chemotherapy experience, excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills, whilst possessing a keen eye for detail. Experience of delivering research trials would be advantageous but robust training will be provided to those who have no experience in this area. Leadership skills are essential to support both team and portfolio development, and there may be a requirement to undertake line management within this role so previous experience of managing or supervising junior staff is essential, as is an ability to work independently and flexibly. The successful applicant will need to be enthusiastic and ready to work actively to support recruiting patients in line with NIHR targets. There may be times when you will be asked to support other areas to achieve these targets.
The post holder will be supported by the Oncology/Haematology research team, senior research nurses as well as our clinicians and Principal Investigators. This role is ideal for a highly motivated nurse who is keen to further develop their experience in clinical research nursing to help shape the future of health care. In return, you will be provided with opportunities to further develop your knowledge and skills in areas including chemotherapy administration and Oncology/Haematology nursing whilst be supported with clinical supervision and coaching. The post holder will work in close collaboration with the Research department, Principal Investigators and research support staff, to ensure compliance with Trust Policy, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Human Tissue Act (HTA), and trial specific protocols.

Qualifications
Essential
- Current RN Adult / RGN registration with NMC.
- Degree in relevant field.
- Evidence of recent CPD.
- Clinical post registration experience.
Desirable
- Relevant experience in Management /Leadership Course training.
- Post graduate level qualification in research, healthcare related subject or equivalent.
- Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Training for Research.
- Previous experience of project management and/or participating in the co-ordination of clinical trials.
- Previous experience of leadership and management.
- Evidence of systems development and change management.
- Phlebotomy.
Skills and Knowledge
Essential
- Effective leadership, motivation and team building skills.
- Articulate and knowledgeable in current health care and Clinical Trials issues.
- Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
