Job overview

Band 6 Specialist Dietitian - Nutrition Support (fixed term - 12 months)

Royal Liverpool Hospital - part of the UHL Group

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Dietitian to work within our acute Dietetic Department at the Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The service at Royal Liverpool site provides a range of complex nutrition services to patients across Liverpool.

The Dietetic service is supported by a well-established medically led Nutrition Support Team.

The post holder will work alongside experienced colleagues to support patients with complex nutritional needs, including those requiring TPN, providing evidence based nutritional support to aid their journey to recovery. The patient group includes gastrointestinal surgery (HPB, UGI and colorectal) and gastrointestinal diseases, in largely inpatient settings. The role requires excellent communication and team working skills, as well as the ability to work autonomously to manage a specialist caseload. This is a great opportunity to develop and share clinical knowledge and dietetics has a high profile within the clinical service.

You will join a busy acute team at the Royal Liverpool Hospital. We have a strong focus on training, and you will have the opportunity to supervise junior members of the team and student dietitians on placement.

Main duties of the job

You will be working within the inpatient surgical dietetic team as well as the multidisciplinary Nutrition Team. You will also be working closely with teams across your specialist areas, the hospital and wider dietetic services. Therefore, this post requires excellent communication skills as well as strong team working abilities.

In addition to working within teams you will be expected to work autonomously, seeing patients on busy inpatient wards, providing evidence-based care, education and information to patients, carers, and health care professionals.

Supporting the training of graduate dietitians and students is encompassed within the role and you will play a vital part in sharing expertise to guide and aid development in the future of dietetics.

This post requires a proactive approach where you contribute to innovation, service development and audit. You will be supported with your personal development goals and have regular clinical supervision and peer support. You will work closely day to day with MDT colleagues, nursing, and medical teams.

We welcome applications from Band 5 Dietitians and those already working at a Band 6 level.
