The post holder will help to foster good relationships between the Dental Hospital and General Dental Practitioners, Community Dental Service and Primary Care Trusts and other health care providers.
The post-holder will participate in, and where required, lead departmental quality improvement projects.
All clinical staff are accountable and responsible for their own clinical competence and should limit their activity to that which is deemed to be within their competence.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
This is post for a Specialist in Special Care Dentistry (1.0 WTE). The appointment is with the Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and is based at Liverpool University Dental Hospital.
The post holder will be expected to work under the line management of the Clinical Director and Divisional Medical Director.
The postholder will be expected to engage in their own continuing professional development and to provide continuing dental education for other staff.
The appointee will be engaged in teaching and training of dentists and DCPs in training.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Attainments
Essential
- Full registration with the United Kingdom General Dental Council (GDC)
- Inclusion on the GDC Specialist List in Special Care Dentistry (or within 6 months of attainment)
- Membership in Special Care Dentistry or equivalent
Desirable
- Post graduate sedation qualification
- Research degree or equivalent
Management Ability
Essential
- Commitment to effective departmental management.
- Ability to participate as part of a clinical teaching team.
Quality Improvement
Essential
- Evidence of active participation in clinical audit/service evaluations/quality improvement programmes
- Willingness to play a part in audit programmes at Trust and Regional level.
Desirable
- National presentation of quality improvement projects
Experience and Training
Essential
- Possession of a certificate of accreditation or eligibility for CCST in Special Care Dentistry (or within 6 months of attainment).
- Successful completion of a SAC approved 3 year training programme in Special Care Dentistry
- Competence in behaviour management techniques and inhalation & intravenous sedation
- Experience of delivering care under general anaesthesia.
Desirable
- Experience of teaching at undergraduate level
- Experience of teaching at postgraduate level
