An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and experienced Band 6 Nurse to join the Skin Cancer Nursing Team on an 18‑month fixed term contract.
The post holder will be a key member of the multidisciplinary team and will be responsible for the delivery of high‑quality, evidence‑based care to patients with a diagnosis of skin cancer, providing specialist nursing support from initial diagnosis through treatment, follow‑up and discharge, and for those requiring palliative and end‑of‑life care.
The successful candidate will work autonomously and collaboratively across the three specialties of Dermatology, Oncology and Plastic Surgery, demonstrating excellent organisational and communication skills to ensure seamless, patient‑centred care across the pathway.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be a clinically based practitioner who will take a supportive role in strengthening the nursing contribution to patients and service users within the Dermatology/Oncology specialities across the organisation.
In partnership with the Dermatology and Oncology teams the post holder will assist, implement and evaluate a seamless specialist service for skin cancer patients from the point of diagnosis, through oncology treatment and during follow up and survivorship
Using nursing skills to contribute to the management of a caseload of patients referred for specialist intervention, care and support. This will involve participating in nurse led clinics.
The post holder will contribute to the ongoing development of innovative practice, standards of care and strategies to ensure practice development and education for other professionals caring for patients within this speciality.
The postholder will be able to autonomously run clinics as well as having the support of band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist for Skin Cancer and the responsible clinician for the patient care.

Essential
- Proven listening and counselling skills with the ability to manage complex situations and appropriately deliver sensitive and difficult outcomes
- Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal and communication skills
- Knowledgeable clinician with the ability to apply evidence based practice
- Knowledge of National Cancer Quality Standards for Skin Cancer and current NHS priorities
- Knowledge of professional policies and procedures.
- Able to manage a clinical work load
- Ability to carry out audit and research
- Proficient IT skills
- Presentation skills
- Ability to write reports and maintain accurate records
Desirable
- Advanced communication qualification
Experience
Essential
- Relevant up to date post registration experience at Band 5 within the Dermatology, Oncology or Plastic Surgery
- Minimum 18 months post registration experience
- Experience of student supervision and teaching
- Experience of delivering patient advocacy
- Experience and understanding of research, and audit
- Experience of multi-disciplinary/professional collaborative working
Desirable
- Membership of specialist interest groups related to Dermatology
Qualifications
Essential
- Registered General Nurse, NMC registered
- First level degree in related subject
- Post basic qualification in speciality
- Teaching and Mentoring qualification
- Evidence of continued professional development
- Advanced communication skills training

- Evidence of successful completion of relevant clinical courses e.g. advanced assessment skills, independent prescribing
