Sister/ Charge Nurse

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, pro rata if part-time, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working.

For the successful applicant, you will be responsible for coordination and allocation of nursing staff; proactive management of patient flow to support Emergency Access Targets; acting as a clinical leader and role model; supporting and developing junior staff; contributing to clinical governance, service improvement and Emergency Quality Indicators.

Main duties of the job
- To assist when necessary with the definition of nursing standards and maintain the provision and effectiveness of those standards in line with clinical governance.
- To fulfil the requirements of clinical governance as laid out by the Trust in relation to quality of care, professional self-regulation and risk management.
- To work alongside Senior ED colleagues and to be actively involved with service.
- To developments and the achieving and maintaining of Government initiatives/ Emergency Quality Indicators.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To provide direction, negotiate objectives and appraise team members.
- To participate in the recruitment and selection of departmental staff.
- To act as lead person, representing the directorate, for specific development projects/meetings in the absence of the Head of Nursing.
- To assist the Head of Nursing in the investigation and positive management of complaints.
- To ensure nursing activities within ED adhere to Trust policies, take initial disciplinary actions if necessary in liaison with a senior colleague.
- To liaise with other agencies and professionals to maintain good service provision. Please refer to the job description for more information.

Experience
Essential
- Evidence of leadership / staff development
- Good understanding of the quality indicators and their effect on the department
- Use of escalation procedures in relation to supporting the quality indicators
- Fully aware of the principles and application of Clinical Governance
- Fully aware of principles of IPC (Infection Prevention and Control) at both basic PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) level and isolation in cases of exceptional risk of infection
Desirable
- Performance management

Qualifications and Knowledge
Essential
- Registered Nurse accredited
- Specific post graduate course / or equivalent experience.
- Evidence of continued professional development within specialty
- Immediate Life Support or Paediatric Immediate Life Support
- Trauma Immediate Life Support or equivalent course / experience
Desirable
- Mentorship qualification
- RMN / RSCN
- Advanced Life Support / Advanced Trauma Nursing Course / Trauma Nursing Core Course / European Paediatric Life Support Management / Leadership course
