A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced manager to join the Surgery and Digestive Diseases Clinical Service Unit as a Service Manager.

We are looking for a reliable individual who will work in partnership with the specialty leads/clinicians/senior administrative staff to ensure the delivery of safe, effective, and high quality patient care across multiple services.

The post holder will have experience working within a large complex organisation and delivering service improvement, change management and risk management.

This is a unique opportunity for a well-motivated individual to join an expanding busy unit to showcase and develop their skills.

The post holder will also provide management support to the Clinical Service Unit (CSU) triumvirate. He/she will have responsibility for the performance of administrative and clerical staff and will ensure that services are delivered within budget to agreed quality standards and in accordance with agreed activity levels.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will also work with CSU staff and other senior managers in the strategic development of the services provided by the CSU.

This will include strategic and operational business planning and monitoring, and the development of relationships with key internal and external partners.

The post holder will ensure that the CSU functions as an integral part of the Trust and that CSU and Trust-wide objectives are achieved simultaneously.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of the working of the NHS and wider healthcare system
  • Knowledge and practical understanding of financial and commissioning frameworks
  • Knowledge of workforce and capacity planning and developing business cases
  • In depth knowledge of waiting list management and effective data utilisation
  • Knowledge and application of key policies and procedures to include constitutional targets; patient bookings, patient choice; health and safety for example
  • Understanding of the NHS modernisation agenda
  • Working knowledge of NHS Constitutional Targets

Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience at middle management level
  • Experience in the management of multi-professional teams underpinned by formal management training
  • Demonstrable experience of operational management in a multi- professional environment
  • People management experience including appraisal and objective setting, recruitment and retention, disciplinary and performance management processes
  • Budgetary management experience and familiarity with cost saving initiatives
  • Understanding and experience of complex information analysis essential for informing business, finance and workforce decisions
  • Previous experience in operational and strategic planning including options appraisal methodology, project/service development and change management

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a complex, externally regulated politically sensitive public sector organisation
  • NHS management experience including ensuring administration processes support efficient patient pathways, governance assurance and understanding of AHP/Psychology services

Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to or working towards degree level or equivalent qualification or experience
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Willingness to undertake training and development as identified through the PDP process

Desirable

  • Masters level qualification in a related field*
  • Management qualification or post graduate diploma*
