Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated registered nurse to come and join the team on the AMU L5 at Northwick Park Hospital.  AMU L5 is a 32 bedded acute medical unit, and it is a busy, fast-paced Unit that receives patients directly from the Emergency Department and other acute areas. Patients typically remain on the unit for 24–72 hours, during which they undergo rapid assessment, investigation, and initial management. Patients are then either discharged home or transferred to the appropriate specialty area for ongoing care. We are seeking staff with good clinical experience that are keen to advance their practice and team working skills. The applicant would be expected to work as a team undertaking duties at Band 6 staff nurse level, with an emphasis on high standards of patient care, good clinical skills and the opportunity to enhance those skills. The post holder will be required to carry out clinical duties whilst maintaining good working relationships with colleagues and would be expected to work within the multidisciplinary team. The areas are complimented by a dedicated therapies and medical team and are supported by a clinical Matron, ward manager and a shared clinical practice development nurse. There is a great opportunity for career progression and clinical and professional development. We offer a supportive atmosphere as well as access to training and educational opportunities.

Main duties of the job

As the band 6 on AMUL 5, you will support the clinical nurse manager in delivering high quality care to the patients on AMU and be actively involved in audit and improving care. You will also be responsible for coordinating the ward and ensuring smooth patient flow in the absence of the clinical nurse manager.

You will need sufficient experience in a relevant specialist area, a teaching qualification and a relevant post graduate course.

The post-holder will provide compassionate, high-quality, patient-centred care in line with Trust values and in accordance with NMC regulations, acting as a visible, approachable clinical leader and role model for both patients and staff. They will assess patients, plan and implement care, offer expert advice and ensure accurate documentation at all times.

The post-holder will coordinate and oversee the delivery of safe, effective nursing care across the ward, confidently managing shifts, prioritising workloads and working closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure an excellent standard of care and positive patient experience. They will provide clinical and managerial support to registered and non-registered staff and students, fostering a supportive, inclusive learning environment through guidance, supervision and teaching.
