Join our dynamic team as a Senior SQL and Integration Specialist (Band 7), where you will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and supporting robust data integration solutions across our organisation.

In this role, you will bring advanced expertise in SQL development within RiO (Electronic Patient Record system), including writing complex queries, optimising stored procedures, and supporting reporting and data extracts from RiO databases to enable accurate clinical and operational insights. You will lead on database performance tuning, data quality assurance, and the development of secure, scalable interfaces between key clinical and corporate systems, ensuring reliable data flows across the Trust. Working closely with multidisciplinary stakeholders, you will translate business requirements into technical solutions, particularly leveraging your knowledge of RiO data structures and workflows, while driving continuous improvement and best practice in SQL and integration (e.g., ETL pipelines, APIs, HL7/FHIR).

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced data professional with strong SQL expertise, RiO experience, and a passion for delivering high-impact digital services in a complex healthcare environment.

SQL Developer duties and responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and optimize SQL scripts using T-SQL
  • Review and interpret ongoing business report requirements
  • Analyse existing SQL queries for performance improvements
  • Suggest new queries
  • Develop scripts for data migration, audits, data quality
  • Develop scripts for use in EPRs, in particular RiO
  • Provide timely scheduled management reporting
  • Build useful and efficient reporting for deliverables
  • Keeping up to date with the latest SQL developments and best practices

Experience

Essential

  • At least 3 years’ experience as a SQL Developer or similar role
  • Hands-on T-SQL programming experience
  • Experience with modern relational databases.
  • Advanced Microsoft office applications e.g., Visio, Excel, PowerPoint

Desirable

  • Leading service changes to improve performance
  • Experience of working within a Digital Department environment

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Excellent understanding of T-SQL Programming
  • Problem-solving: ability to identify and troubleshoot database issues and find solutions to complex problems.
  • Skilled at developing or optimising long, complicated SQL statements

Desirable

  • Collaboration: Ability to collaborate effectively with other members of the development team, product managers, designers and business analysts.
  • Time Management: Ability to manage own time effectively to meet project deadlines.

Education/ Qualification/ Training

Essential

  • Relevant master’s degree or equivalent knowledge and relevant experience

Desirable

  • Management/leadership qualification or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • ITIL qualification
