An exciting opportunity has arisen for an aspiring, self-motivated individual to join the Pharmacy Team at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS as Senior Project Manager on a fixed term basis. Funded from the East Midlands Cancer Alliance, this post will be instrumental in supporting implementation, scoping and delivery of determined efficiencies across the Pharmacy Aseptic Services and the pharmacy oncology team.

With excellent communication and influencing skills, you will support the review of existing processes and pathways and support implementation of new ways of working to improve the care of patients across UHL Cancer Centre. You will help to support a new electronic system upgrade and streamline the ordering of medicines across different pharmacy locations.

As a suitable candidate, you will be able to demonstrate excellent project management skills, ability to support all aspects of the full project lifecycle, combined with strong leadership and people management experience to be able to support on the key focus area outcomes from the UHL Cancer Centre – working to implement One Versus Two stop for aseptic services.

You will be resilient and adaptable, with a 'can-do' attitude, able to operate in a highly complex, dynamic and fast –changing environment working in collaboration with pharmacy and other colleagues from across Clinical Management Groups to support pharmacy projects as required and provide appropriate assurances to embed sustainable delivery.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will lead alongside the CMG Lead Pharmacists, Principal Pharmacists and Principal Pharmacy Technicians along with the Pharmacy Leadership Team to support the Pharmacy Service with the projects currently required.

The post holder will be responsible for developing and maintaining detailed action plans. To work alongside the Pharmacy Senior Team to ensure robust mechanisms are imbedded in the service and to provide and maintain appropriate assurance frameworks for sustainable delivery of any actions or recommendations.

The post holder will work alongside the Pharmacy Senior Management Team, key members of the pharmacy team, members of CSI and representatives/stakeholders from relevant Clinical Management Group (CMG) to progress the specific improvement schemes.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To develop and maintain detailed action plans, working alongside the Senior Pharmacy Team to ensure robust mechanisms are imbedded in the service and to provide and maintain appropriate assurance frameworks for sustainable delivery of any actions or recommendations.

  • Undertake appropriate audits, service review and use improvement methodology to inform service development decision making and change management.
  • Responsible for developing a project plan to deliver transformational change within pharmacy and associated services.
  • Responsible for the development of an action plan, and development of robust mechanisms, to provide assurance to the Senior Pharmacy Team and other key stakeholders.
  • Ensure governance arrangements are in place to support transformational projects; project plans including milestones, delivery dates, key performance indicators, risk assessments, and quality impact assessments.
  • Provide monthly highlight reports to the pharmacy meetings and/or other groups as identified.
  • Ensure the delivery of identified outputs and KPIs.
  • Ensure that all necessary communications are undertaken across all stakeholders within the organisation and with healthcare partners to enable successful delivery.

Experience

Essential

  • Clinical professional qualification or operational management qualification or equivalent knowledge gained in a health-related organisation.
  • Evidence of achieving transformation which has resulted in positive change in the health and/or social care setting.
  • Management experience to include experience of having undertaken change management.
  • Project management at a senior level with evidence of leading and managing improvement projects
  • Experience of analysing complex data with multiple components of information in both qualitative and quantitative formats
  • Experience of undertaking audits and using improvement methodology within change projects
  • Experience of working with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of research, audit, data collection and analysis methodologies. Specialist knowledge, practical application and experience in change management, modernisation, service redesign, facilitation, and successful implementation of service improvements at a senior level.

Desirable

  • Knowledge and understanding of current NHS structures and health and social care delivery systems.
  • Knowledge and understanding of NHS commissioning and benchmarking
  • Knowledge of pharmacy services and the NHS national delivery plan

Training & Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree level qualification or equivalent experience gained in a health related and/or large complex organisation

Desirable

  • Project management qualification e.g., PRINCE 2, Managing successful programmes or equivalent.

  • Ability to analyse complex facts and situations and develop a range of options and solutions
  • Takes decisions on contentious issues where there may be several courses of action.
