The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust is seeking an experienced Senior Network Technician to join our Digital & Technology Services team. This is a key technical role supporting the Trust’s enterprise network infrastructure across hospital sites, data centres, and community locations.
You will be responsible for providing senior‑level technical expertise across LAN, WAN, WLAN, firewalls, and remote access services, ensuring high availability, performance, and security for critical clinical and corporate systems. Acting as a senior escalation point, you will lead on complex troubleshooting, support major incidents, and contribute to network upgrades and infrastructure projects.
The role requires strong experience supporting enterprise networking environments, excellent problem‑solving skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, operational healthcare setting. You will work closely with ICT colleagues, clinical stakeholders, and third‑party suppliers to maintain resilient and secure services.
Essential requirements include networking qualifications (e.g. CCNA/CCNP or equivalent experience) and significant experience supporting large‑scale network infrastructure. On‑call and occasional out‑of‑hours working is required.

Main duties of the job
Provide 2nd and 3rd line support across the Trust’s WAN, LAN, WLAN,and firewall infrastructure, including hardware, software, and cabling, ensuring issues are owned through to satisfactory resolution in line with Service Level Agreements.
Troubleshoot and resolve highly complex network and security issues,ensuring minimal disruption to critical clinical and business services.
- Take ownership of the continuous improvement and futureproofing of the Trust’s network infrastructure, including capacity planning and performance optimisation using network monitoring tools.
- Proactively monitor, manage, and report on network performance, availability, and incidents, ensuring timely communication to stakeholders and affected users.
- Lead or support the installation, configuration, and deployment of network equipment, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless infrastructure.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of complex network solutions, including participation in pilot projects, technical evaluations, and infrastructure upgrades.
- Support the planning and delivery of network-related projects, including upgrades, migrations, and new site deployments, managing changing priorities where required.
- Ensure the security of network infrastructure, including firewalls, access controls, and monitoring systems, maintaining robust protection of internal and external services.
