Senior Medical Secretary Trauma & Orthopaedics

This is an exciting opportunity to join a supportive secretarial team within Trauma & Orthopaedics at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, supporting our Orthopaedic Consultants and wider clinical teams.

What We are Looking For
Someone with current Medical Secretarial experience at a Senior level within a surgical environment, preferably within Trauma & Orthopaedics.
What You will Bring
Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail. Strong communication skills, a positive outlook and proactive approach. Ability to work independently as well as supportively within the team.
You will provide high-level secretarial support to our Orthopaedic Consultants and team, managing complex workloads and ensuring the highest standards of service. While training will be provided, we are looking for someone with the skills to be able to work autonomously from commencement.
All shortlisted candidates are required to complete a typing assessment along with a role based task at interview.
Main duties of the job
You will be an integral part of a busy secretarial team, working closely to support Orthopaedic Consultants and clinical teams.
In this role, you will manage a wide range of administrative responsibilities, including handling emails, telephone calls, diary management, and general office duties. You will also take on more complex tasks such as theatre list coordination, managing patient care pathways, report preparation, clinic scheduling, and managing patient waiting lists.
You will interact daily with clinicians, patients, carers, health professionals (both internal and external), and colleagues, which will be a key part of your role. You will need to show initiative and ensure communication is applicable and relevant.
As a member of the Trauma & Orthopaedic team, you will provide dedicated support for two consultants and their clinical teams, while collaborating with secretarial colleagues to ensure departmental cover when required.
This position demands excellent organisational skills, along with both the ability to work independently as well as working closely within the team. You must be able to prioritise a busy workload whilst maintaining a high level of accuracy, and be able to adapt flexibly to meet service demands. A commitment to delivering outstanding patient-focused service is essential.

Job responsibilities
Medical Secretary Key Duties
You will manage your own workload, which includes:
- Typing clinical and non-clinical correspondence
- Using AI and IT systems to produce documents
- Data input, scanning, and maintaining accurate records
- Telephone cover and Outlook management
- Liaising with patients, clinicians, and colleagues

This role carries significant responsibility for patient care pathways, surgical requirements, and overall management. While you will receive support, a high level of autonomy is expected in handling these tasks.

- AMSPAR or C&G Qualification or equivalent experience
