We are looking for a highly organised, motivated, and experienced Senior Medical Secretary to join our busy Clinical Haematology service. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting our consultants and multidisciplinary team, ensuring the smooth delivery of high-quality patient care.

As a Band 4 Senior Medical Secretary, you will provide comprehensive administrative and secretarial support within a fast-paced specialist service. You will be expected to work independently, manage competing priorities, and maintain the highest standards of confidentiality and professionalism.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide a comprehensive secretarial service to Clinical Haematology consultants and their teams.
  • Support with navigation for those patients referred with suspected haematological cancer, ensuring there are no delays with investigations and clinic review appointments.
  • Manage consultant diaries and clinic schedules.
  • Processing of clinical correspondence, ensuring accuracy and timely completion.
  • Coordinate urgent and routine patient appointments, investigations, and admissions.
  • Maintain patient records using electronic systems.
  • Respond to telephone and email enquiries from patients, GPs, and healthcare professionals.
  • Liaise effectively with internal departments and external organisations.

Experience

Essential

  • Senior administrative experience, i.e PA, Service Navigator, etc.
  • Providing secretarial support to a clinical team.

Desirable

  • Medical secretarial experience
  • Experience of working in NHS or other large organisation

Qualifications

Essential

  • GCSE or equivalent Maths & English
  • RSA II or equivalent

Desirable

  • EDCL
  • AMSPAR Diploma/working towards or recognised training in medical secretarial work

Personal Qualities

Essential

  • Aware of self-presentation.
  • Able to work under pressure/to deadlines.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Able to handle more than one job at once.

  • Audio typing/proofreading of correspondence containing complex terminology

  • Use of Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel).
