We're looking for an experienced Medical Secretary to support a Consultant Breast Surgeon and a Consultant Cardiologist at The Lister Hospital.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a busy, patient-focused service, playing a key role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the consultant's practice. You'll be responsible for coordinating patient pathways, managing clinics and providing high-quality administrative support. This role would particularly suit an experienced Medical Secretary who has previously supported Consultant Surgeons and thrives in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Above all else, we're committed to the care and improvement of human life. It's this guiding vision that influences everything we do at HCA UK. From the CEO to the colleagues on the floor we all have a part to play in delivering exceptional care to our patients. Others may think this is just a support role, but to us, you'll be part of a wider team with a unique sense of purpose, one that helps improve lives on a daily basis.

What you'll do:

  • Provide comprehensive administrative and secretarial support to the consultant, including audio-typing of clinical and non-clinical correspondence, reports and other sensitive documentation, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
  • Support the consultant in clinic and coordinate patient journeys from initial consultation through to investigation, treatment and surgical procedures, ensuring appointments, admissions and diagnostics are managed efficiently, accurately and promptly.
  • Prepare clinics by ensuring all relevant correspondence, imaging, scan results, insurance information and patient records are available and up to date.
  • Manage patient enquiries, inboxes and telephone calls, providing a professional and responsive service to patients, consultants and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Arrange planned and urgent admissions, request investigations and obtain test results, escalating abnormal or urgent findings where appropriate.
  • Process clinic outcomes and undertake associated follow-up actions, including arranging further investigations, treatments and surgical procedures.
  • Prepare, distribute and manage dictated letters and clinical correspondence, ensuring documentation is completed accurately and within agreed timescales.
  • Undertake additional administrative responsibilities as required to support the smooth running of the consultant's practice and ensure an excellent patient experience.

What you'll bring:

  • Proven experience working as a Senior Medical Secretary.
  • Experience supporting Consultant Surgeons within a busy healthcare environment.
  • Breast surgery and/or Cardiology experience is desirable.
  • A strong understanding of medical terminology and clinical processes.
  • Excellent typing, audio-typing and document production skills, with a high level of accuracy.
  • Strong communication, organisational and prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage competing demands effectively.
  • A proactive and patient-focused approach, with the ability to work independently and manage a busy workload.
