Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a senior finance professional to support the Trust’s transformation ambitions, aligned to the NHS 10 Year Health Plan, while helping to secure financial sustainability.

This is an exciting time to join the Surgical Division, which has already made significant productivity progress and theatre utilisation, with a new theatre opening soon providing further capacity. As Senior Finance Manager, you will be a trusted and influential business partner, working alongside operational and clinical leaders to support transformation, identify and deliver efficiencies and ensure the best use of our resources for patients.

You will combine constructive support with respectful challenge, bringing financial insight and an objective perspective to decision making, with a clear focus on value for money and making every Herefordshire pound count. Alongside this, you will provide strong leadership of the Division’s management accounts function and bring NHS financial expertise and commercial acumen to complex decisions and business cases.

Reporting to the Deputy Chief Finance Officer you will work collaboratively across the Trust and be an important member of the Finance Senior Leadership Team. As a small Trust, the role offers regular access to the Executive team and excellent exposure to a diverse range of strategic, operational and financial challenges.

The role embraces agile working across our Herefordshire sites and from home.

Main duties of the job

As Senior Finance Manager, you will lead on financial responsibility for the Surgical Division, leading the management accounting service and ensuring strong financial governance, control and performance management.

You will ensure accurate and timely reporting, forecasting and analysis, identifying financial risks and opportunities early and supporting operational and clinical leaders to understand and take ownership of financial performance.

A key priority will be the identification and delivery of efficiencies. Working with divisional colleagues, you will support the development of robust plans, assess opportunities and risks and track delivery, providing financial leadership to transformation programmes and service developments.

You will lead the financial assessment of complex business cases, providing expert advice on affordability, value for money, risk and sustainability. Strong knowledge of NHS finance, funding and financial governance will be essential to providing credible advice and supporting well informed decisions.

You will lead and develop the Division’s finance team, setting high standards and supporting professional development, continuous improvement and high performance.

As a senior member of Finance, you will also contribute to the Finance Senior Leadership Team and the continued development of the Trust’s finance function.
