An exciting opportunity has arisen at East Cheshire NHS Trust a small acute and community trust for a Senior Finance Manager for one of its clinical directorates. This role is a business partnering role as part of financial management.

Hours per week: 37.5

Main duties of the job

The Senior Finance Manager (SFM) is one of three SFM posts, which are the primary points of contact between the Finance Department and the Trust’s clinical and corporate business units. The SFM is responsible for providing the financial information and advice necessary for the business units to meet their key operational and strategic business objectives. The role will require excellent negotiation, influencing and communication skills.

  • Have substantial experience within relevant financial management, preferably public sector
  • Have experience of staff management, recruitment and performance management and have the ability to motivate a team

Desirable

  • NHS experience

Qualifications

  • Be a fully qualified CCAB accountant – (Master’s Level qualification)

  • Have advanced knowledge and experience of financial and management accounting principles and practice
  • Have a robust understanding of financial and activity information systems and have the ability to extract, interpret, and present relevant information for different users
  • Have a robust understanding of the service and financial planning process and the ability to plan and implement the process
  • Have advanced knowledge of computerised and manual financial and non-financial systems, including spreadsheet and database packages. Be able to develop such systems to maximise the benefits to all users
  • Be able to assess the training and development needs of budget managers and to deliver those needs effectively
  • Be able to manage time effectively, prioritise and organise short, medium and long term agendas and deliver to agreed deadlines. The post holder must have the ability to change plans at very short notice in order to respond to unpredictable requests from both internal / external sources
  • Be able to use highly developed negotiation and communication skills at all levels both within and external to the Trust and be able to communicate highly complex financial information to non-finance managers
  • Be able to communicate effectively, in writing, with all levels within the Trust and with external bodies. The post holder will be able to recognise when it is appropriate to provide written guidance, clarification or confirmation
  • Be able to negotiate effectively with commissioners of clinical and non-clinical services, either individually or as part of a multi-disciplinary negotiating team
  • Be able to demonstrate the presence, personal confidence and commitment necessary to command the respect and confidence of senior and junior colleagues. The post holder will have the vision and interpersonal skills to influence finance and other colleagues
