We’re looking to appoint a Senior Data Warehouse Developer to join our growing Data Warehouse Team. Following investment into our Digital function, we are on a mission to transform complex healthcare data into trusted, accessible information that helps clinicians, managers and decision-makers improve services for our patients. This is an opportunity to work with large-scale datasets, modern data technologies and a highly collaborative and friendly team, delivering solutions that make a genuine difference across the organisation.

Hybrid working: our staff work a mix of from our office at Wardsend Road North and from home. Occasional travel to clinical sites will be required. Everyone is also welcome to work in the office full time.

Interviews are planned for 3rd, 4th & 5th August.

Main duties of the job

  • Development and maintenance of the Trust Data Warehouse and database systems.
  • Definition of key Trust measures and metrics in alignment with national guidance and the NHS Data Dictionary.
  • Development and maintenance of tabular models which support the needs of analysts to create service-based performance reports efficiently.
  • Creation, testing and maintenance of a suite of Power BI dashboards for use throughout the Trust.
  • Monitoring the performance of the Data Warehouse and report server to ensure efficiency and high availability for end users.
  • Developing and embedding the Trust technical reporting strategy.
  • Implementing data loading and data access capability from a range of sources using tools such as SSIS, SSRS and T-SQL.
  • Using source control tools (e.g. Azure DevOps, GitHub) to track work items and manage source control, builds, and release pipelines.
  • Leading and developing timely Trust wide access to the required business intelligence tools, supporting dataset returns, operational and performance reporting.
  • Taking responsibility for ensuring that all mandated datasets and data returns are completed within agreed deadlines, adhere to the specification and have appropriate cover in the event of absence.
  • Working with other teams in Digital and in other departments to promote high data quality and the use of self-serve reporting tools.
  • Leading and managing Data Warehouse Developers and Data Warehouse Analysts.

Essential

  • Appropriate demonstrable experience in relational database management systems (RDBMS)
  • Significant experience in a data warehousing, BI reporting or data analysis role
  • DW design methodologies

Desirable

  • Staff management
  • NHS information flows, hospital systems and applications
  • Experience of using source control tools (e.g. Azure DevOps, GitHub) for managing work

Knowledge and skills

Essential

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft SSIS and MS SQL Server database Technologies – SQL Server 2012 and above
  • Advanced T-SQL programming skills
  • Able to demonstrate excellent written, documentation and oral communication skills and abilities
  • Knowledge of NHS data standards and definitions
  • Analytical and logical planning skills

Training and qualifications

Essential

  • Degree in computer related subject or equivalent professional qualification or experience

Desirable

  • Certificate in database administration / data modelling
