Job overview
Applications are invited for a Consultant in Congenital Cardiothoracic Surgery to join the surgical team in the Department of Congenital Heart Disease at Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust (GSTT). Our directorates care for patients across our trust sites (Evelina London & St Thomas’, Royal Brompton, and Harefield Hospital).
Main duties of the job
This is a full-time post (10 programmed activities) with the option for additional programmed activities available according to the job plan.
The post will be based at Evelina Children’s Hospital but will also have sessions at the Royal Brompton Hospital to support the Adult Congenital Programme. The successful applicant will be expected to have expertise in the full range of congenital cardiac surgery, with significant experience at consultant level and experience of a senior leadership role. The successful candidate will join the team of five congenital cardiac surgeons working with a large team of paediatric and adult congenital cardiologists and intensivists. The successful candidate will be on call for paediatric and adult congenital surgery.
It is a requirement of your employment that you be prepared to work at any additional or different location owned or served by the Trust, either on an on-going or temporary basis according to the demands of the service.
The post-holder will have regular contact with vulnerable adults and/or children (0-18 years) and therefore this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such, it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Criminal Records Bureau to check for any previous criminal convictions.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
It is a requirement of your employment that you be prepared to work at both sites and in any, either on an on-going or temporary basis according to the demands of the service.
The post-holder will be accountable to the Chief of Congenital Care surgery ; to the Clinical Director of the Children’s Cardio-Respiratory and Intensive Care Directorate and ultimately to the Medical Director of the Evelina London Women & Children’s Clinical Group. As well as the Medical Director of HLCC. The postholder will work closely with Clinical Leads for CHD and ACHD, Cardiac Anaesthesia and PICU across all Trust sites and with non-congenital cardiac surgeons and cardiologists in adult clinical groups.
