Job overview

Our Early Intervention Service is looking for a Band 6 Community Mental Health Nurse to add to its lively and caring team. We offer support to individuals aged 14-65 experiencing a First Episode of Psychosis, using a wide range of biopsychosocial interventions.

This part-time post offers an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic practitioner to develop their skills and positively contribute to the already strong complement of nurses within the team. Training, great support and professional supervision is offered.

You will be responsible for the delivery of a variety of specialist assessments and evidence based mental health interventions associated to the Early Intervention in Psychosis Service.  The overall purpose of the role is to ensure that individuals who are referred into the service have their needs and the needs of their families and carers assessed, and interventions/recommendations are identified to meet these needs.

We are a county-wide based team and our operational working hours are Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm, with some flexibility when required to engage with our service users. We are committed to Agile working in accordance with MPFT trust policy and guidance. The post entails some travel across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin.

Main duties of the job

  • To work as a senior member of the Early Intervention in Psychosis Service and support the organisation in effectively delivering Nice Concordant Early Intervention in Psychosis Service to all appropriate referrals
  • Providing specialist Early Intervention consultation/liaison and advice to colleagues
  • Contributing and undertaking specialist Early Intervention assessments for those referred to the service with suspected psychosis and/or At Risk Mental State.
  • To be responsible for the planning, implementation and evaluation of the evidence based interventions required, including health promotion for a named service user/group under the guidance of the team leader/senior practitioners
  • Responsible for the appropriate clinical risk assessment of Early Intervention service users, contacting the “Out of Hours” services where required, providing effective advice, guidance and decision making process culminating in the coordination of any reviewed plan of care under the supervision of the team leader/senior practitioners
  • Responsible for the organising admissions, case conference/reviews and discharge planning in collaboration with members of the multi-disciplinary team under the supervision of the pathway lead/ senior practitioners

  • Sufficient experience at working at Band 6 or equivalent
  • Experience of having worked with young people who are experiencing or have been suspected of experiencing a First Episode of Psychosis
  • Knowledge of the philosophy around Early Intervention in Psychosis
  • The ability to demonstrate enthusiasm/commitment to our service user group
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • A willingness to work assertively to engage our service users

EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Sufficient experience at working at Band 6 or equivalent.
