At present, University Hospitals of North Midlands is unable to offer visa sponsorship for Band 2 to Band 4 roles, as these positions do not meet the minimum salary and skill thresholds required under UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) regulations.

In relation to Band 3 Senior Clinical Support Worker roles, we are currently able to recruit successfully from the domestic labour market and have a sufficient pool of suitably qualified and appointable candidates. As a result, visa sponsorship is not available for this role at this time. This position is kept under regular review and may change in the future should labour market conditions or service requirements alter.

Main duties of the job

Provide a high standard of direct care for patients pre and post joint replacement and other orthopaedic procedures working with the team to promote early post operative mobilisation as appropriate and support in length of stay and facilitate safe discharge from hospital

To document accurately in line with UHNM Trust policy

To be involved in the induction and mentoring of new staff where applicable. Act as role model to junior members of the team.

These Skills have been pre-mapped and approved by UHNM for this role and will be supported by completion of a robust UHNM competency package that will be accompanied by education packages delivered by both the Care Coach Team and other UHNM educators across the trust who specialise in the training of these specific skills.

  • Taking Clinical Observations and Recording on Vitals/Paper
  • Venepuncture
  • Glucose Monitoring
  • Pregnancy Testing
  • Urine Analysis (Strip)
  • Taking Faecal Samples
  • Carry out 12 lead ECG
  • Wound Observation
  • Simple Wound Dressing
  • Removal of Peripheral Cannula
  • Take Swabs (e.g. MRSA)

- Observe for post operative confusion

  • Support and Assist New Staff

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

As a Senior Clinical Support Worker on ARTU, Ward 227, you will play an essential role in delivering safe, effective, and person-centred care to patients who have had suffered major trauma and are at different stages of their recovery. This includes patients who have suffered from orthopaedic, spinal, brain injuries or complex injuries and require specialised rehabilitation.

Your main role and responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering personal care including washing, dressing, toileting, and assisting with meals in a way that maintains dignity and respects patient preferences
  • Supporting patients mobility and promoting independence, including the use of appropriate mobility aids
  • Carrying out clinical observations such as blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, and blood glucose (following training and competency) escalating any concerns to the registered nurse
  • Assisting with admission, discharge, and transfer of patients
  • Accurately documenting care given and escalating concerns promptly to the registered nurse
  • Contributing to a clean and safe environment by adhering to infection control policies and maintaining high standards of hygiene
  • Working collaboratively with all members of the multidisciplinary team
  • Ensure training is kept up to date and engage in the appraisal processes to support your professional development
  • Upholding the UHNM Trust values.

  • Care Certificate or must complete within 12 weeks of commencing employment
  • NVQ/QCF Level 3 in Care/Equivalent qualification or willing/required to complete if successful (If applicant has 3 years or more care experience this is voluntary).
