We are seeking an enthusiastic Senior Clinical Psychologist to join our Physical Health Psychology Team. The role offers specialist psychological care for people affected by cancer experiencing severe psychological distress and pre-surgical psychological assessment for people on the Tier 4 bariatric surgical pathway. Our service works closely with MDT colleagues in Cancer Care and Bariatrics at University Hospitals North Midlands.

The post holder will provide highly specialist psychological assessment and intervention through individual and group work, alongside consultation, training, and supervision. This includes providing clinical supervision within the profession and cross-professionally offering Level 2 supervision and training to cancer clinical nurse specialists. The post also offers opportunities to develop leadership skills through referral and pathway management and service improvement initiatives working alongside the Consultant Clinical Psychologist and the Senior Service Manager.

We will consider applications from people whose main area of work since qualification has been in an adult mental health setting.

Main duties of the job

To deliver a highly specialist clinical health psychology service to outpatients as an integral member of a multidisciplinary team comprising a Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Clinical Psychologists, and Psychological Therapists. The post holder will provide psychological assessment, formulation, and evidence-based interventions to individuals and groups, supporting emotional adjustment and enhancing quality of life. The role involves working with people experiencing psychological distress and complex mental health difficulties associated with living with and beyond cancer, as well as individuals undergoing assessment and preparation for bariatric surgery.

Responsibilities will also include consultation, referral screening and triage, pathway and service development, clinical supervision, training, and risk assessment and management.

To offer clinical supervision to band 7, trainees and assistants. Offering level 2 supervision and training to nursing colleagues across the relevant specialties at UHNM.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To provide specialist psychological assessment of adults with mental and physical health difficulties utilising information from a broad range of structured psychometric and semi-structured clinical methods. To integrate this information into a psychological formulation of the client and his/her psychosocial environment, drawing on a range of psychological theoretical perspectives.

To provide psychological assessment, formulation and intervention to individuals and groups in a community clinical health psychology team setting in order to facilitate emotional adjustment and promote improved quality of life.

To undertake a range of psychological therapeutic interventions, drawing on a number of psychological models and employing a range of modalities. To make decisions about treatment options taking into account highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group.

To keep up to date with best practices and advances in practice.

To communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of clients under the care of the liaison service integrating the contribution of other professionals on the basis of client need.

To take substantial professional responsibility and exercise autonomous judgement with regard to his/her professional practice.

To be responsible for providing a specialist psychological perspective in the multi-disciplinary assessment of service users and their families or carers.
