This is a Senior Clinical Fellow post within the Imaging, Clinical Support & Imaging Services Clinical Management Group (CSI CMG). The post holder will join an established team of GI/GU diagnostic and interventional radiologists at the University Hospitals of Leicester.
Main duties of the job
- Support and Develop Services: Work alongside existing consultant colleagues to deliver high-quality GI/GU diagnostic imaging and non-vascular interventional services.
- Clinical Workload: Share the reporting of complex cross-sectional examinations (CT/MRI) and support the ultrasound and fluoroscopy services.
- Interventional Radiology: Participate in elective and emergency non-vascular interventional procedures (including biopsies, drainages, and nephrostomies), with senior supervision tailored to the candidate's experience level.
- MDT Participation: Take an active role in relevant GI/GU Multidisciplinary Team meetings, benefiting from our status as a tertiary referral hub.
- Teaching and Training: Contribute to our renowned training programme by assisting in the tuition of Specialist Registrars and supervising radiographer specialists.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
As a major Tertiary Centre, UHL provides a comprehensive range of specialist services. This role is specifically designed for a motivated radiologist who has completed their specialist training outside of the UK and wishes to develop their expertise further within a high-volume, complex clinical environment.
This position can support candidates seeking to work towards a Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) to obtain UK specialisation. As we support all aspects of imaging required for the curriculum, the department is committed to providing robust consultant supervision, peer support, and specific portfolio guidance to ensure successful CESR submission.
Departmental Context
The department boasts a strong training programme with deep links to the East Midlands Deanery (South) and the University of Leicester Medical School. The Fellow will be integrated into an environment that prioritises education, sub-specialty development, and clinical excellence.

The post holder will be required to maintain flexibility across the three main University Hospitals of Leicester sites:
- Glenfield Hospital
- Leicester Royal Infirmary
- Leicester General Hospital
Person specification
Experience
Essential
- Completion of specialty training in Radiology (UK or International). Proficient in reporting acute CT and general cross-sectional imaging.
Desirable
- Experience in tertiary-level non-vascular interventional procedures. CTC Reporting MRI Prostate Reporting
Qualifications
Essential
- MBBS or equivalent. Success in FRCR Part 2A
Desirable
- Full FRCR (Part 2B completed). Full GMC Registration with a licence to practise. Membership of relevant Specialist Societies or Associations Higher degree e.g. MSc, MD or equivalent
Clinical Skills
Essential
- Competency in Basic IR: Independent in ultrasound/CT guided biopsies and drainages.
Desirable
- Advanced Non-Vascular IR experience: including Biliary intervention, Oesophageal stenting, and RIGs. Portfolio to back experience.
Language skills
Essential
- Evidence of English language proficiency meeting GMC requirements (e.g., academic IELTS with a minimum score of 7.0 in each clinical area and 7.5 overall, or OET Grade B in all four sub-tests).
Desirable
- Evidence of having worked in a UK clinical environment for 6+ months.
Knowledge and skills
Essential
- Capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge to GIGU imaging. Ability to prioritise clinical need and work effectively in an MDT.
Desirable
- Evidence of completing audit or Quality Improvement Projects (QIP).
