Vaccinations are the safest and most effective way of protecting individuals and communities from vaccine preventable diseases. Working for the School Aged Immunisation Team allows for you to work as part of a team supporting and promoting the importance of vaccines who are passionate to protect this age group and offering support to the Integrated Vaccination Service across the Trust.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Clinical Supervisor to support the management of the Community Vaccination Service, focusing on the School Age Immunisation Service (SAIS). The CVS team is part of the Integrated Vaccination Service and provides all school age children in Dorset their immunisations as per the UK Health Security Agency schedule, immunisations take place at a school or community clinic. The outreach teams also delivers vaccines to care homes and housebound patients. You will be supporting the management of a team of nurses and administrators on a day-to-day basis, ensuring all clinics and sessions are staffed appropriately and safely. The role will be based in the West of the County, with the team having three bases across Dorset and admin bases at various locations and there may be occasions to support across the County.

Main duties of the job

Working within The School Aged Immunisation Service/CVS and Dorset HealthCare NHS Trust offers an exciting opportunity as we are looking at new and diverse ways at ensuring we are meeting the needs of our youngest populations and engaging with them. You will be part of this journey with a team of caring compassionate nurses and admin staff.

To support any immunisation service developments are delivered consistently pan Dorset in collaboration with the Clinical Lead and Matron.

To support the management of the school aged immunisation programmes, ensuring that requirements are supported and in place to allow for set time scales.

To have oversight of the Outreach Team based in The West

To support with the development and implementation of innovative ways of working in the delivery of school based immunisation programmes in conjunction with the Clinical Lead, Matron, Senior Managers and Project Managers as appropriate

To develop and support effective partnerships with external agencies e.g other provider units, Local Authorities, Schools and on occasion, PCN's and Care Homes.

Exploring the data for uptake figures and working in partnership with schools who have low uptake and how this can be improved.

  • Demonstrable ability to evaluate data and produce reports using Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Experience of planning and organising complex activities such as organising own time and that of junior staff and learners, planning off duty rota and undertaking discharge planning involving co-ordination with other agencies.

Desirable

  • Learning and Assessing in Practice Qualification or equivalent practice assessors training

  • Able to communicate effectively at different levels of an organisation in both verbal and written form, for example with staff, patients, visitors or external organisations in the exchange of sensitive or contentious information, which will require the use of negotiating and/or persuasive skills

  • Experience of planning and organising complex activities such as organising own time and that of junior staff and learners, planning off duty rotas, involving co-ordination with other agencies and planning for sudden, unforeseen circumstances

Supervisory/management experience

  • Previous clinical people supervision/ management experience
  • Able to act as a clinical supervisor
