We have an exciting opportunity for an NMC-registered nurse to join our Cancer Research Team at Southampton General Hospital as a Band 5 Research Nurse within our Gastrointestinal Cancer Research portfolio. Detailed job description and main responsibilities

As a Research Nurse, you will play an important role in delivering a diverse portfolio of cancer research studies from study set-up through to close-out. Working within a supportive and experienced multidisciplinary team, you will help ensure participants have access to high-quality clinical research opportunities.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Supporting the delivery of a range of commercial and non-commercial research studies.
• Identifying, recruiting, consenting and following up patients and participants involved in clinical trials.
• Administering research treatments, including Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT), in line with study protocols and Trust policies.
• Undertaking clinical assessments and ensuring accurate collection and recording of high-quality research data.
• Providing care and support to research participants across a variety of settings, including inpatient wards, outpatient clinics (such as Hamwic House) and other clinical areas.
• Working from the Cancer Research Office on E Level while collaborating closely with clinical and research teams across the Trust.
• Contributing to quality improvement initiatives, audits and service development projects.
• Supporting the education and development of healthcare students by acting as a Practice Supervisor and/or Practice Assessor where appropriate.

About You

We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated and compassionate registered nurses who are interested in developing a career in clinical research. Previous research experience is desirable but not essential, as comprehensive training will be provided through our dedicated Research Education Programme. You will receive a structured induction, ongoing professional development opportunities and support from a welcoming and experienced team.

We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates who have experience in administering Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT), although support and development opportunities will be available for the right candidate.
