An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Secretary to join the Renal Department at Dorset County Hospital.
This is a varied, interesting and rewarding role, and we are looking for a post holder who is professional, confident, keen and friendly. You will need to be able to communicate with everyone in the Multi Disciplinary Team, including Consultants, Nurses, Secretaries, Patients and external agencies so having excellent communication skills is essential to the role.
The post is based at South Walks House, Dorset County Hospital.
This role is for 37.5 hours per week.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to undertake a range of general administrative duties for the department including clinic typing, answer telephone and email queries; and handle and distribute incoming post.
The job holder would be expected to act on own initiative and be responsible for their own actions and be able to make decisions within their role and seek advice, if required, from various members of the MDT team.
As a member of a team in the department, the post holder will be expected to work flexibly with other members of the team to ensure the best possible patient care.

Essential
- Experience of working with computer systems, to include Microsoft Office and PAS
- Experience of working with staff at all levels
- Secretarial experience within the last 4 years in a healthcare setting
Skills, Abilities & Knowledge
Essential
- Evidence of secretarial skills including excellent audio typing and minute taking
- Evidence of effective communication skills both written and oral
- Evidence of ability to respond quickly to changing priorities, organising own workload to meet deadlines
- Evidence of ability to work without direct supervision within broad procedural guidelines
- Evidence of abilty to exercise judgment when dealing with queries and to analyse and resolve problems
- Evidence of ability to build and maintain good working relationships within a Team
- To be able to demonstrate integrity and professionalism when dealing with difficult situations
- An understanding of the meaning of confidentiality and the requirement for this to be maintained
- Familiarity with using PAS (Patient Administration System) desirable, however training can be provided.

- Educated to GCSE or equivalent, level C or above in Maths and English
