Job overview

Are you organised, enthusiastic and interested in developing new skills in a supportive team environment? Would you like to gain valuable workplace experience, earn a salary and achieve a recognised qualification at the same time?

This is an exciting opportunity to begin a career in recruitment, workforce systems and business admin. As an apprentice, you'll learn on the job, gain a recognised apprenticeship qualification, gaining practical experience and develop skills that will support your future career.

As part of one of our friendly team, you'll be supported by experienced colleagues who will help you build your confidence, develop workplace skills and gain an understanding of how People Services supports the delivery of high-quality patient care through our workforce.

From supporting recruitment campaigns and welcoming new colleagues to the Trust, to maintaining employee records you'll gain experience across a wide range of People & OD activities.

No previous experience in HR, recruitment or workforce administration is required.

We're looking for someone with a positive attitude, a willingness to learn and a passion for providing excellent customer service. In return, we'll provide the training, support and development opportunities you need to succeed.

Whether you're leaving school or college, looking for your first office-based role, or considering a new career path, this apprenticeship could be the first step towards a rewarding career within the NHS.

Main duties of the job

As part of our Recruitment & ESR Team, you'll learn how to provide administrative support that helps keep essential people processes running smoothly across the Trust.

Throughout your apprenticeship you'll receive support, training and practical experience whilst developing valuable skills in recruitment, workforce systems, customer service and administration.

A typical day may include:

  • Supporting recruitment campaigns and helping candidates through different stages of the recruitment process, promoting Gateshead Health as a great place to work.
  • Assisting with the preparation of employment documents and onboarding information for new starters.
  • Learning how to accurately update and maintain employee records using workforce systems, developing valuable skills in workforce administration and data management.
  • Developing customer service and communication skills through responding to telephone and email enquiries from staff, managers and applicants.
  • Helping staff access workforce systems and services whilst building your knowledge of NHS processes.
  • Handling confidential and sensitive information professionally and appropriately.
  • Assisting with routine reports, data quality checks and other administrative activities that support the wider team.
