To work as a highly skilled practitioner who is responsible for the delivery of patient focused programmes of care, which address the complex and changing health and wellbeing needs of critically ill patients and their families with a particular focus on recovery after critical illness

The post-holder ensures the smooth running of the Recovery after Critical Illness Service in the absence of senior colleagues, and provides clinical and managerial leadership to nursing and support staff.

Main duties of the job

The role supports the RaCI team in delivering the objectives of the Recovery after Critical Illness service, ensuring safe, competent care for all eligible patients. It requires excellent communication, assertiveness and the ability to challenge when patient rights may be compromised, while fostering strong interdisciplinary working, inclusive practice and adherence to confidentiality standards. Clinically, the post‑holder demonstrates advanced critical care expertise, autonomous decision‑making and the ability to manage complex, rapidly changing situations, acting as a role model.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Clinical and Technical

• Demonstrate specialist skill and professional knowledge acquired through academic, clinical, leadership and management development. Work as an excellent role model for professional practice.
• Practice in accordance with the professional, ethical and legal codes of the Nursing and Midwifery Council, and Trust’s protocols and guidelines. Be accountable for own practice and for the delegation of care he/she gives to more junior colleagues, support workers and students.
• Demonstrate expert ability exclusive to critical care to deliver level 1+, 2 and 3 care to critically ill patients and those recovering from critical illness. To guide more junior staff to deliver effective, holistic, person-centred care.
• Accepts and acts upon referrals from other clinical areas and make referrals to other disciplines and services as appropriate, unsupervised
