We are looking to recruit an experienced Receptionist to join our Outpatients Service at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery.
Our Outpatients Department provides a professional, welcoming, and efficient front-of-house service to patients, visitors, and clinical staff. The role includes booking and checking in patients, managing clinic appointments, handling telephone enquiries, and ensuring accurate data entry across hospital systems.
The post holder will be responsible for maintaining patient confidentiality, supporting the smooth running of clinics, liaising with multidisciplinary teams, and responding to queries in a calm, compassionate, and professional manner. Working in a fast-paced environment, the Receptionist plays a vital role in delivering a high standard of patient care and ensuring the effective day-to-day operation of the department.

Main duties of the job
- The post holder will operate from one of our 5 very busy reception areas • You will be required to demonstrate sensitivity; an awareness of patients’ needs and a commitment to improving the patient experience. • As the first point of contact for patients using the service you will be responsible for greeting, arranging appointments, dealing with general enquires • You will provide clinic administrative support for consultants, junior doctor’s Allied Health Professional & nursing teams to ensure resources and services are delivered on time. • The post holder will be expected to maintain the Trust core values and ensure a high standard to the services and patient care are met and sustained at all times. • Excellent communication, organisational & IT skills • The ability to cope well under pressure and multi-task • The competence to manage their own workload

Experience
Essential
- Experience of working in a non-routine environment, with demonstrable evidence of being able to respond to queries and deal with unpredictable situations as they arise (acquired through experience and/or training to Vocational level 3 or equivalent).
- Experience of working in a customer facing environment, with knowledge of a comprehensive range of administrative procedures.
Knowledge and Qualifications
Essential
- Educated to GCSE level or equivalent, with Grade C or above in English and Maths.
- Knowledge of administrative procedures, acquired through training and/or previous experience of working in an administrative environment.
- Awareness of the requirement to maintain confidentiality, and knowledge of the Data Protection Act.
Desirable
- NVQ Level 3 in Business Administration, Customer Service, Healthcare Support Services or equivalent qualification.
